Super Born - The Book

Are People Ready for Super Hero Romance & Sexuality? Part 1

Share Button

Does it naturally follow that if you developed super human powers; enhanced strength, senses, and abilities, that you would likewise be granted amplified depths of emotional romantic attachment and sexual desire? As deep and powerful as these feelings are in normal people, would any increase constitute an evolutionary step? Can we even conceive of what lies beyond human emotional desire which represents our current pinnacle state? Are readers and audiences ready to dare look around that corner?

If you follow Hollywood and Comic Book trends, the answer is no. The romantic ‘adventures’ of current Batman, Superman, and Spiderman are still rooted in the earlier romantic repression into which they were born. If anything, they have watered down, controlled, and repressed emotional connections and sexuality. Are these things one surrenders to be a super hero? Comics are filled with women characters that are heavily stylized physical super women, much like Ferraris with no engines.

Are you ready for super hero romance and sexuality to come out of the closet? I have more to say in Part 2.
